One of the biggest barriers kids face to learning the guitar is the weight of the instrument.

We did some basic math to compare the weights of musicians to their guitars.

A Stratocaster is about 4% of a healthy adult's body weight.

A "mini strat" made for kids is about 17% the weight of a 6 year old kid.

Carry that same ratio over to see what the guitar "feels like to a kid", and you get a figure of 23 pounds.  Would you want to play a guitar that weighs 23 pounds?

We wouldn't either.  That's why we designed the Volt to be 40% lighter.
